Who should the Lions select with the first overall pick? Want to know where Michael Crabtree will be the best fit? SportSims.net, an online dynasty football franchise simulation, used their simulation's intricate draft routines to determine what the Lions, and other top teams, should select this weekend in the 2009 NFL Draft.
SportSims.net’s draft routines analyzed each team's Roster and used other factors like what GamePlan the team is running to create each team's DraftPlan, a prioritized list of the team's draft needs. Because of the draft's “human element,” this Mock Draft is not a prediction of what each team will actually take, but a recommendation of what should be drafted based on each team’s current needs using the DraftPlan Generator used in SportSims.net’s Live Draft.
Pick 17: New York - WR - Jeremy Maclin, Missouri. The Jets really need a QB and could take Nate Davis, but he does not have a 1st round grade. Maclin could be a game changer.
Pick 18: Denver - DE - Brian Orakpo, Texas. They still need a QB...still none worth this pick. The Broncos should feel lucky that Orakpo fell.
Pick 19: Tampa Bay - OLB - Brian Cushing, USC. The Buccs are looking for a replacement for Derrick Brooks. Cushing has a chance to come close.
Pick 20: Detroit - OT - Michael Oher, Mississippi. With a QB in tow, the Lions grab a potential star LT to protect Stafford with their second 1st rounder.
Pick 21: Philadelphia - OLB - Marcus Freeman, Ohio State. Tough call; the Eagles really should get McNabb a WR here, but they don't spend high picks on WRs.
Pick 22: Minnesota - TE - Brandon Pettigrew, Oklahoma State. As long as the Vikings' QBs hold up, they don't need much. Pettigrew does fill a weak spot and gives the offense another playmaker.
Pick 23: New England - S - Louis Delmas, Western Michigan. Belichick will need to replace Rodney Harrison. The Patriots will have to "settle" on a Brian Dawkins clone.
Pick 24: Atlanta - OT - William Beatty, Connecticut. Imagine how much better Falcons' QB Matt Ryan can play if he has someone blocking for him.
Check back in with us on Friday for Picks 25 thru 32.
